Firefighters, men, and women are trained to extinguish fires and rescue people and animals that are in danger. When there is a fire that is out of control firefighters douse the fire with water and some fires need dousing with foam to be extinguished.
Fire can break out just about anywhere, firefighters have special equipment to deal with the fires, like water trucks, pumper trucks, ladders, fire extinguishers and hoses. Sometimes people can get caught up in the fire, and firefighters use the equipment to help them rescue anyone who is trapped. Fire can create a lot of smoke, and inhaling the smoke can be dangerous, so people are advised to crawl on the floor to avoid breathing in the smoke.
Smoke rises, so stay low or crawl on the floor in the cleaner air where it’s easier to breathe.( Fire safety advice). Remember, never play with matches and lighters.
Firefighters don’t only extinguish fires, they do rescues as well because they have the equipment and training do this. The firefighters even rescue cats that have climbed up a tree and are too frightened to come down.
Firefighters are one of the emergency services, like the Police and the Ambulance service.
